France vs Italy: France Rugby Player Thibaud Flament incredible rise for his team
Fabien Galthie has a word for companies in the France set-up who have followed questionable paths to the global game; they’re known as one. In English UFOs.In his first squad in 2020, you had Anthony Bouthier, the past builder who played his first top-flight game at 27 and was opening for France within six months. Since then, Gabin Villiers has gone from existence as a second-team scrum-half in the third tier to a fantan standout and then a Test winger in just 18 months. And last July Melvyn Jaminet jerked France to a first win on Australian earth in 31 years before he’d got his first palate of the Top 14. Even by those standards, Thibaud Flamen’s emergence to make his Test debut in November was amazing. It became one of the common choruses of autumn. Did you know that Thibaud Flament used to drama fly-half for Loughborough University fifths?
In just five years, the 6ft 8in Flament, who had taken up rugby in Belgium, went from dragging the threads at ten in BUCS Four to initial in the second row for Les Bleus against Argentina at the Stade de France. When he recorded a try on a winning entrance, all anyone could talk about was his university background. Very quickly it developed a cliché to file away with Miro Itoje’s verse, Liam Williams’s past life as a scaffolder, or Zander Fagerson, the prop who used to be a choirboy.
Yet the reason Flament’s trip resonates is that it is so unlikely. He is almost exactly two years older than his Toulouse and France team-mate Romain Ntamack, a player who has been sloped for the highest honors almost since he surveyed his old man Émile weary the All Blacks in the 1999 Rugby World Cup semi-final at Twickenham as a six-month-old. The duo may have both started their vocations as fly-halves but it was Ntamack who was on the books at Toulouse from the age of five and represented every France team through the age clusters, usually playing up a year or two.

When Ntamack was France’s first-choice ten at the 2019 World Cup in phase 20, Flament had just signed his first expert contract with Wasps and was watching what was fashionable in Japan from the pub with his friends. He admits it is somewhat surreal that the pair now share a varying room for club and country, and newly added a win over the All Blacks to their CVs.

Where Ntamack always seemed ordained for the top, Flament has taken the long route – but both are imbued with the same resolve. The 24-year-old explains that rugby has always been the main focus. My aim, my dream was to be a specialized rugby player, and all my results were based on that. The choice of being profitable to study in the UK was a means to an end, to reach that detached, and that’s why I chose to go to Loughborough.
After a decade playing for ASUB Waterloo in the Kingdom of Belgium, he was born in Paris but moved to Belgium via Singapore with his family when he was three Flament was never going to get picked up by a French academy, and acknowledges that he was not yet good adequate. As a late developer, the move to Loughborough to study intercontinental business worked out faultlessly, for him and the uni.
Dave Morris, then Loughborough’s executive of rugby, remembers laying eyes on Flament for the first time. He recalls. We have trials for the new schoolchildren at the university and we have a lecture theatre where we give a speech explaining what the course looks like. All the time you are trying to assess the physical shape of people and the second row is one that I’m looking at. When I saw this very tall, very thin player, I went up and asked him what place he was. He thought he was a fly-half in a French-Belgian inflection. It was a bit of a tremor.
At the trial, prompt you could see that he had this great ability to catch the ball late, time his pass before contact, and be out of the connection. You just thought, with that height, long-term on the depth chart at Loughborough, he’d be a good creature to adapt to the second row, both for him and for the Loughborough programmed. We called him ‘The Project’, so in our multi-disciplinary team summits with the physio, asset, habituation, etc., we would discuss how Thibaut’s alteration and progress were going.
France vs Italy: Deeply sorry' Italian prop cops big ban for Traore banana gift
Italy prop Ivan Nemer has stolen a hefty ban following an investigation into his racist secret Santa gift to Benetton and Azzurri co-player Cherif Traore. It was in the week before Christmas that Traore took to social media to explain his disgust at being paid a rotten banana, and his public calling out of the racist gift sooner or later resulted in the Treviso-based URC franchise dangling an unnamed player on December 22.
A Federal Court examination was thrown and 35 days later it has now been decided to ban Nemer, the 11-cap front-rower, from rugby until June 30. The forward looked off the Italy bench in all three of their recent Season Nations Series matches but was omitted from Kieran Crowley’s 34-strong squad for the future Guinness Six Nations. An Italian Rugby Federation statement read Ivan Nemer, the Benetton prop, has been banned until June 30.
The sanction was obligatory by the Federal Court following the request for summons by the federal prosecutor and in obedience to the FIR justice regulations and World Rugby rule 18. This was based on
the soundings carried out by family members to what befell during a lunch organized by Benetton Rugby players on December 20 and publicly publicized via social media by Ivan Nerem’s colleague, Cheri Traore, and the subsequent demand for a plea deal.

In defining the approval, the Federal Court, in accepting the request for a plea bargain, took into deliberation Nemur’s desire to shed full clarity on what occurred, the regret represented towards his teammate, the recognition of the shame caused by his behavior to the image of the Benetton Rugby permit, of Italian rugby and the game in general, as well as the archetypal behavior always upheld by the player on and off the field through his career.
The Italian Rugby Alliance, in taking note of the choice taken by the Federal Court, has defined in agreement with Benetton Rugby that the player actively partakes as a specialist in the scrum ordered by the FIR migrants’ scheme and that, at the same time, he takes part in a training course and raising mindfulness on integration issues in a sovereign assembly, which will be specially identified for him.
The player’s future participation in the Italy side activity is subject to permanent input and the succeeding successful completion of the training and awareness-raising process, which must be certified by the organizing body. An account from Nemer read Racism has not and will never have any role in my life, as it shouldn’t have in the life of any of us. I’m forcefully sorry for what ensued, for the foolhardiness of my gesture, for the annoyance caused to a friend, and for having caused damage to my team, my colleagues, the country I represent, and the game I love alert.
