Ukraine, who last played against Bosnia and Herzegovina in a 2-0 victory in November, faces Scotland in a Football World Cup playoff semifinal on June 1, with the winner set to face Wales for a place in the finals in Qatar later this year. Ukraine Football world cup team will play a friendly against Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach on May 11 in what will be their first match since the February invasion.

"Every day we receive messages from our soldiers. A lot of soldiers, a lot of people in Ukraine love football and they only one demand 'Please do everything you can to go to the Qatar World Cup,'" Stepanenko told a news conference.

Because for the country, for them, it's like a moment of hope. It will be like a celebration for the country. That's why we have to play, not only a football game, we have to play with our soul, with our heart.

This is very, very important. It will be very emotional for my country, for our players, and all of Ukraine. The team is currently training in Slovenia and Stepanenko said it has not been easy for them since they read about the situation in Ukraine on the news.

"Every day you see the photos, videos about what happened in my country, and every time we speak about these guys, occasionally it's difficult," he added.

But we understand what this willing means for us and we have to do everything we can to do our best. With the Ukrainian Premier League suspended due to the invasion, head coach Oleksandr Petrakov said they have to prepare for the friendly like it was any other official match as they have had no match practice in months.

"We haven't got any official games now and we have no internal championship because of war, so the most important thing for our guys is to give their all in these games," he said.

"Not like it's a friendly, but like it's an official match because it's the only opportunity for us to have good preparation."

Ukraine starts Qatar Football World Cup play-off preparation in Slovenia

Ukraine midfielder Taras Stepanenko supposed Friday that the team from the war-torn country would play with our souls and our hearts as they prepare in Slovenia for their Football World Cup play-off in contradiction of Scotland.

Preparations are ongoing this week at the Slovenian Football Association training centre at Brdo pri Kranju, some 20 kilometers north of the capital Ljubljana. Ukraine coach Oleksandr Petrakov gathered 23 players from Ukrainian clubs and expects others to arrive from across Europe when the season ends.

Since their arrival to Brdo, players have been training twice a day, allowing the coach to choose who he will take to Scotland for the game on June 1. Stepanenko said the war, which began when Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, had kept him away from the football field and without training for over a month, but he and his teammates were getting back in shape.  For more to know about Germany Vs Spain Tickets Click here.

“It is not only a football game. We have to play with our souls and our hearts,” the 32-year-old told journalists before beginning afternoon training.

“We get messages from our soldiers and they have only one demand: please make everything you can to go on to the Qatar Football World Cup.”

If the team qualifies for Qatar, “it will be a celebration for the country,” Stepanenko supposed.

“For the country, for them, it’s a moment of hope,” he supposed.

Ukraine will play a friendly game with German club Borussia Monchengladbach on May 11, the country’s football association announced last Friday, in a warm-up ahead of their World Cup play-off against Scotland in Glasgow. Petrakov said more friendlies are being negotiated by the Ukrainian Football Federation.

“The most important for our players is that they give all they can at the friendlies as if they were official matches,” Petrakov supposed.

We would like to go to Qatar very much, Petrakov told journalists. He added that UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin had suggested they prepare at the Slovenian FA’s training base. The fixture with Scotland was rearranged at the request of Ukraine from March 24 to June 1 following the Russian invasion. The winner of the game will play Wales in Cardiff on June 5 to determine which country goes to Qatar.

The match is due to be held at Borussia Park, which can hold more than 54,000 spectators, with all proceeds being donated towards relief efforts. Ukrainian citizens can receive free entry to the match, withstanding tickets for other supporters available at €7.50 (£6.30/$7.90) and sitting tickets for €15 (£12.60/$15.80).

Russia, assisted by Belarus, invaded Ukraine on February 24 in a move that has led to both aggressors being largely frozen out of the international sport. According to the United Nations, at least 2,899 civilians have been killed since the launch of what Moscow describes as a "special military operation", although it is feared the true figure is far higher, and more than 5.5 million people have been forced to flee Ukraine.

Ukraine's men's FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff away at Scotland was postponed in March following Russia's invasion, with the match at Hampden Park now scheduled for June 1. Scotland played Poland in a friendly match last month, with donations from each ticket sold going towards the United Nations Children’s Fund humanitarian response in Ukraine.

The winner of the Scotland-Ukraine tie is scheduled to travel to Wales on June 5 to play for the final European berth at the Qatar 2022 World Cup, where the triumphant team has been drawn in Group B alongside England, Iran, and the United States.

The Ukrainian Premier League season was last week terminated due to the invasion, but the national team is also due to play UEFA Nations League matches against Ireland and Armenia in June. Many players have not played a match for several months.

The national team is set to begin a training camp in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana today, before becoming guests of Borussia Monchengladbach from May 10 to 12. Borussia Monchengladbach chief executive Stephan Schippers called on supporters to attend the friendly game in large numbers.

"We’re very happy to be able to help the Ukrainian FA through this game, and hope that as many football fans as possible from all over the country come to the stadium and make a donation to a good cause by buying a ticket to the match," he supposed.

All Ukrainian citizens will have free entry to the game. The German club claims it has raised around €176,000 (£147,000/$185,000) towards relief efforts in Ukraine. Borussia Monchengladbach is most famous for their success in the 1970s when they won five Bundesliga titles, the UEFA Cup twice, and finished as European Cup runners-up in the 1976-1977 season.

Ukraine's men's team reached the quarter-finals of last year's European Championship, a tournament that the country co-hosted with Poland in 2012. Ukraine reached the last eight of the FIFA World Cup on their only appearance as an independent nation to date in Germany in 2006.
