FIFA World Cup: Brazil football crash fighter finds new life in music
Jackson Follmann recalls the moment the plane's engine died and all went black. Then, penetrating pain and cold volley fell on his body. Drifting in and out of awareness, he called out for aid, until he saw the ray of a light shining through the debris of the fuselage.

It has been five years since the even carrying Follmann and
the rest of Brazilian football side Chapecoense Real ran out of coal on the way
to the final game of the South American Cup, banging into the mountains outside
Medellin, Colombia.
Seventy-one people were killed in the smash. Follmann, now
29 years old, is one of six who lived though he lost his right leg under the
knee. After that, my biggest dream converted something so simple, just to be
able to walk over.
"We were all so happy, so eager to go play for the
title. Then from one day to the next, I lost my friends, I lost the basis of my
livelihood," he supposed.
In the half-decade since the one-time goalkeeper from the southerly
state of Santa Catarina has had to reinvent himself. His football career was cut
petite by the crash, he has found new life as a motivational utterer and
Brazilian country singer. As a kid, I had two big thoughts. Flattering a
footballer came first. Then fate carried what it did, and now I'm living my
second vision thanks to music, he told AFP.
Follmann, who has unconfined four sertanejo singles, paid
two months in the hospital after the crash feeling treatment for 13 fractures, counting
two severe ones in his upper back column. He supposed he twisted to music and
his Christian faith to get him finished.
"I had two choices after the accident: sit about
feeling sorry for me, or lift my head and face life," he supposed.
He selected the latter. He got a tattoo on his right arm a
picture of himself in his Chapecoense jersey uphill a stair with his prosthetic
leg, a giant pacifist in the sky above. By 2019, he had improved so well he was
able to seem like a competitor on the reality TV show Popstar.
He didn't just contribute to the show: he won, with
sertanejo songs that pulled at the spectator’s heartstrings. Follmann, who stirred
to Sao Paulo last March, played for Brazil's under-20 national side and several
local clubs before linking Chapecoense.
