Arsenal Football: Arsenal plotting double transfer announcement spells bad news for key players
Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga's signings will have a knock-on impact at Arsenal. Arsenal has agreed on a deal for Portuguese left-back Nuno Tavares, while talks over signing Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht are believed to be close to completion. And if the two youngsters arrive at the Emirates it spells bad news for the future of Granit Xhaka, Matteo Guendouzi, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles at Arsenal.

The 21-year-old Tavares has impressed Benfica and the
Portuguese youth international offers another option at left-back for Mikel
Arteta. And Albert Sambi Lokonga, also 21, was a regular in the Anderlecht
throughout the last season before earning a call-up to Belgium’s expanded squad
ahead of Euro 2020.
The two players fit the preferred profile of the club’s
transfer targets, as Arsenal priorities players with growth and sell-on value. And
the two signings could signal the start of a spending spree at Arsenal, with
the club reportedly willing to spend as much as £250million to secure their
preferred targets, as Arteta looks to build a squad capable of lifting Arsenal
back to the top tier of English football.
Yves Bissouma, James Maddison, Norwich full-back Max Aarons
and Brighton center-half Ben White are all also reportedly of interest to
Arsenal. Arsenal’s transfer moves could spell bad news for Xhaka, Guendouzi,
and Maitland-Niles’ futures at the club.
Guendouzi spent last season on loan at Hertha Berlin and the central midfielder is not expected to return as an Arsenal regular after
revealing how enjoyable his team in the Bundesliga had been. For more to know

“To new beginnings,” Guendouzi said on Twitter. “A difficult the day arrives, this one, the day to say goodbye to an entire institution for which I had the immense privilege and honor to play football.
“I just wanted to work with respect, dedication and defend the club’s values. I wish Hertha Berlin the best. I leave with a lot of emotions.”
Ainsley Maitland-Niles would also be a player indirect
competition with the two new arrivals, and the 23-year-old’s seven-year stay at
Arsenal could be approaching its end after a lackluster loan spell at West
Bromwich Albion last season. And Arsenal central midfielder Granit Xhaka is
pushing for a move away from the Emirates in any case, with Sambi
Lokonga potentially a direct replacement for Switzerland
international.
Xhaka has started at Euro 2020, playing a pivotal role in
his country’s round-of-16 win over France. And the 28-year-old is expected to
move to Roma this summer, after making his dissatisfaction with Arsenal public.
“Arsenal know what I want to do. Football is a team sport and you’re only as good as your team, Xhaka said. Of course, it was a good year for me personally. I’ve always played and performed. But the place at the end of the season is, of course, really bitter & disappointing for us.”
